Bogota, Colombia

Bogota, Colombia

Our flight into Bogota was super easy – 1 hour drive to the airport in Armenia (outside of Salento), 45 minutes at most in the air, and a 25-30 min. drive to the hotel. Overall, much better than the bus we’d been thinking of taking! By Bogota we were pretty tired from traveling/transiting/hiking, so we took it pretty easy. My stomach still wasn’t 100% yet either, so there was that. The first day we spent relaxing in our hotel room,…

Valle de Cocora

Valle de Cocora

Being creatures of habit (and suffering from extreme decision fatigue), we decided to not make any decisions the night after our coffee farm tour, and went back to Cafe Bernabe. Plus, I mean, the place was great. We’d both seen multiple dishes we wanted to try, but I went with making no decisions and got the exact same thing. There, we also ran into the Romanian couple that we’d met at the coffee farm. Being a small town, this would…

Salento, Colombia

Salento, Colombia

After very much enjoying our time in Medellin—despite battling our GI issues—it was time to head to our next destination, a little town up in the coffee region of Colombia called Salento. We’d had a few people recommend Salento, including a fellow traveler that we met in Cartagena. He showed us some pictures from there and we decided to make it happen. We thought we’d try a more economical route, and so we booked a bus from Medellin to a…

Fast and Slow in Medellin

Fast and Slow in Medellin

Well, as John mentioned in the last post, I was the first to fall victim to some mal del estomago. But being the amazing husband John is, he couldn’t let me do this alone. So we took our last couple days in Medellin slowly, while at times moving very quickly! We did manage to make it down to the Botanical Gardens at the Universidad metro stop. The gardens were gorgeous, well maintained, and free! I love flowers, and we also…

This Ain’t Narcos

This Ain’t Narcos

We had a late flight to Medellin on Tuesday. The airport we flew into is 45 minutes away from the city by taxi, in the mountains above the city. As you’re winding down the mountain, eventually you pop over the side, and the massive city spreads out through the entire valley thousands of feet below you. It’s stunning, seeing the endless city lights as far as you can see in either direction. And for some reason, at this point was…

Last Days in Cartagena

Last Days in Cartagena

Last night we flew from Cartagena to Medellin. It was a sad goodbye, as Cartagena has been good to us – our first home away from home. We really enjoyed the sights, the people, the food, and generally the weather. Given my horrific sunburn, our last couple days were pretty tame but still a ton of fun. See below! Laundry Even though we’d only been gone a week, we’d sweated through the majority of our clothes in Cartagena. Next to…

Cartagena: Photo Safari

Cartagena: Photo Safari

I brought my DSLR on this trip for a reason, and it wasn’t for all the extra weight. It was to take pretty pictures! Here are some of the pretty pictures we got so far in Cartagena. I hope you enjoy them, keep coming back because we’ll have plenty more! I hope you like wide angle pictures, because to keep weight down I only brought my wide angle lens for this trip, so you’re gonna get a ton of them….

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca

One of the touristy things to do out of Cartagena is to take a speed boat out to the Islas Rosario and Playa Blanca. Not remotely above being tourists, we spent Thursday afternoon walking around town looking for a good tour. We settled on one sold by Optitours. They pick you up from your hotel, take you to the dock, and take you on a speed boat out to the islands and Playa Blanca. There, they give you lunch, beach…
