Fast and Slow in Medellin

Fast and Slow in Medellin

Well, as John mentioned in the last post, I was the first to fall victim to some mal del estomago. But being the amazing husband John is, he couldn’t let me do this alone. So we took our last couple days in Medellin slowly, while at times moving very quickly!

We did manage to make it down to the Botanical Gardens at the Universidad metro stop. The gardens were gorgeous, well maintained, and free! I love flowers, and we also got to see more wildlife, including fish, iguanas, ducks, turtles, birds, and cats. We had a great time strolling around. Basically, we’ve become old and retired – we stroll, garden, and nap in the afternoons. That being said though, we’ve done a ton of walking in the hilly streets of Medellin, averaging 5-7 miles per day. Between the walking and diarrhea, our clothes are fitting a bit looser!

In the evenings we wandered the El Poblado area near our hotel and marveled at what a party scene it is. If we’d been feeling more up to it, we would’ve joined in on the party, but alas, our salsa skills will have to wait until Bogota. We (John) were offered coca and marijuana multiple times by men either passing by or standing on street corners. One guy even offered John anything he wanted. I thought he should ask for a pony.

What’s Next?

Join us next time as we head to the mountain coffee getaway of Salento!

  1. Just got caught up on all the posts! Sounds like a great start! Well, minus the mal del estomago…though I’m experiencing that in DC as we speak. Hope you guys are feeling better!
